Has the latest craze of building television shows got you looking for ways to renovate your house? DIY renovations shows often leave us taking a step back to look at the house that surrounds us. From here, we often notice an out of date kitchen, cracked bathroom tiles or a bedroom that looks like it hasn’t been changed since the early 90s. If you’ve caught the renovation bug but simply don’t know where to begin, check out these great apps for inspirations on the latest and greatest building and decoration techniques.
DIY Chatroom Forum
To kick off the flow of ideas, there’s no better way than chatting with fellow renovators. The ‘DIY Chatroom Forum’ app allows users to post in online discussion boards and ask any questions or put forward any ideas that they may have. Forums are a great way to get the opinions of others, which can often create further inspiration for your design.
The Block
Inspired by the popular television show ‘The Block’, this app provides users with tips on renovating, videos of renovations performed on the show and an endless photo gallery of inspiring ideas.
DIY Home Makeover Tips
The ‘DIY Home Makeover Tips’ app is perfect for the first time renovator. While experienced renovators will also find handy tips on this app, beginners will be able to learn skills such as how to find the perfect paint and safety advice while renovating. With so much information at the tip of your fingers, this app is surprisingly user friendly, with an easy bookmarking system that allows you to mark your favourite chapters.
Better Home Guide
If you’re looking for renovation inspiration for just about every room in the house, you’ll find it all in the ‘Better Home Guide’ app. This app provides a wealth of knowledge, with renovation and remodelling ideas, along with detailed information relating to home improvement techniques for garden and outdoor areas.
Handy Man DIY
Now that you’ve got your ideas sorted and are filled to the brim with inspiration, it’s time to get down to business. The ‘Handy Many DIY’ app has everything a first time renovator could need. With features including a folder to store each individual room dimension, a shopping list creator and sender, a task list for goals and a material list of items needed, you’ll always be one step ahead of the game. Check out the ‘Handy Many DIY’ app to achieve renovation success!
While renovations are a great way to save a bit of money and get the hands on experience of building, you should always leave plumbing and electrical issues to the professionals. Builders and electricians are qualified to handle the more complex details of renovating a house, so avoid disappointment and speak to an expert.

When I eventually get a smart phone (maybe), I’ll have to check some of those out. I love DIY and spent three hours at Home Depot this weekend for our rental house. It’s amazing how much you can learn on your own. Things don’t seem nearly as daunting when you can connect with others who have done the same thing.

For sure, the power of the internet makes DIY projects so much easier. You can easily connect with people who have done the same thing or even watch videos of people explaining what to do. Some of that would be a lot more convenient on a smart phone. As for getting a smart phone, I had been thinking about getting one for my bday soon, but I’ve decided to put it off for now.
I haven’ heard of any of these. Thanks for the list. They will definitely come in handy as we finish off a few projects around the house.

There are so many apps out there. So it’s not surprising you haven’t heard of these ones. I’m sure some of them could be extremely useful though.
Great advice. I had no clue about any of these apps and constantly have a stream of DIY projects around the house. Thanks!

Well now you know where to turn for those future projects. I know it’s not always very convenient to bring your laptop with you to wherever you’re working on the project. It would be easy enough to have the advice right on your phone though.
This is great! I dont think most of these apps will do much for me, but I always support people DIYing. But I always say that you’ve got to know what you’re doing before you DIY otherwise you’ll lose money that you spent on supplies and lose more money when you have to hire a contractor to fix your mistakes! Some of these apps seem great for people to be able to do some research before starting! Do tons of research, know what you’re doing, measure twice, cut once.

Yeah I have a feeling that you know more than most of the people giving advice on those apps. Perhaps down the road you could create a BlueCollarWorkman app of your own though. People do need to do sufficient research before jumping into a DIY project. Just because it may seem simple at first, it doesn’t mean that they won’t benefit by some research beforehand.
What an awesome list! I haven’t heard of any of these but I don’t have a smartphone or a tablet, so I’d be stuck hoping that all of these apps could be downloaded on a PC. Nonetheless, we’re not really the “DIY” type and I try to shy away from doing too much on my own.

There’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t think DIY is for everyone. Since you work from home and run your blog on the side, you’d really have to consider the return on the time spent. I know with me time is so valuable that there’s lots of things that I would gladly just pay someone else to do.
I’ll make sure my bf takes note of these!

I’m actually in the process of starting to build my house and I’m always looking for some good tips. I didn’t even think about looking to see if their was an app for that though for this kind of thing. I will defiantly give all of them a look.

It seems there’s an app for everything these days. It almost makes me want to get a smartphone. Then again I’m not much of DIY kind of guy. I’d like to be more handy, but I just don’t have the time.
Nice way to incorporate technology into an age old venture. I thought I was hip to just search the web for tips and information on renos but apparently using apps makes it easier to streamline the process. My kitchen is over 30 years old, maybe it’s time for a new one lol. Great tips.

For some things it would be a lot easier to just use your computer and its larger screen. Once you actually get started though, it makes sense to just have that stuff on your phone. Or you might want to do research while in the hardware store.
This comes at a great time! I am definitely going to check out ‘The Block’ for some tips and perhaps the Handy Man when I get a bit more advanced

Yeah now that you have your own home, it’s time to start tackling some DIY projects. Just make sure you really know what you’re doing before getting started.
We just finished painting our kitchen cabinets, which was our first big DIY project. We didn’t use a smartphone app, but we did a lot of looking online at blogs and Pinterest.

As long as you did some research beforehand that it is what is important. Some projects may be more complicated and need more research. So if you keep up the DIY thing, keep these apps in mind.
Jefferson and I love to DIY! It saves so much money (as long as you know what you’re doing and don’t make a bigger project out of a small fix-it job!) and it’s just so much more rewarding knowing that you’ve done something yourself. The DIY forum is brilliant! I’m totally looking into that for our next project!

The great thing about forums like that is people are always so helpful in sharing their own experiences with others. So you might come across things to avoid that might not be mentioned in some random instructional video. Plus you get so many other people’s opinions on everything.
Forums are the best places to learn from people who have actually done what you are attempting to do. That’s how I’ve learned about cars, fence building, patio building, repairng my water-heater….and pretty much anything else. I love learning from real-world experience.

Forums are pretty awesome. I know I learned a lot of SEO and internet marketing via various forums. Plus I’ve used them for all kinds of random advice. It’s just a great concept to get a group of like minded individuals all together to discuss specific topics.
Just shows how technology can be used to make it happen for people who are smart enough to use it.
What ever you do before you get started do not get in over your skill set this is the easiest way to get injured when your talking about running saws and swinging hammers.
Excellent post what motivated you to write this?

Yes one downside of all of this readily available information is that people can get overconfident. Then before they know it they’re over their head.
Well it was a guest that wrote this article. So I can’t speak for them regarding what their motivation was. I guess he just wanted to share some good finds related to DIY.
Just as everyone else has said, I’ve never heard of these either. It’s interesting to me how you can find information you are looking for everywhere now. I’d never think to use my phone or tablet to help me with a renovation project. But ask me that same question 10 years ago and I would tell you I wouldn’t use the internet to help me either, but here I am, using for ideas and advice all of the time.

It is pretty crazy how readily information is becoming. It wasn’t too long ago that people had to go to the library or bookstore to start learning something new. Now people are constantly connected to all that vast information. All that information is just going to expand and evolve as technology improves.
That’s about the only thing I ever use YouTube for, looking up how to do a specific repair that I’m unclear about.
For me youtube is either to play some music or random instructional videos. I’m not one of those people who can kills hours just watching random clips on there. Well I probably could, but then I’d feel guilty about being unproductive.
I’m inspired but have no talent. So I just hint stuff to the hubby over..and over..and over..

We have done a ton ourselves- from landscaping (yuck) to laying and grouting tile, etc. It saves so much cash! Thanks for the cool sites to check out. Have a great day!

I haven’t done a new home build but I did buy a condo that was in need of some repairs. I am pretty mechanically inclined but there were tons of things I didn’t know how to do that I learned like installing new kithcen/bath plumbing, chandeliers, light fixtures, etc.
I actually went to youtube for detailed instructional videos and posted on a couple diy forums. Great tips and it’s all free!

That chatroom app sounds great. Thanks for putting this together – it’s really amazing how renovation ideas and inspiration can spread so easily. I really like apps/platforms that bring people of the same industry/niche together…
