Ok, first thing’s first…I got a job! Woohoo! If I wasn’t all comfortable in my computer chair I’d jump up and do a little dance. Then again, I don’t want to freak out my cats. They tend to give me angry glares when I do weird stuff like that.
On Monday I went and met up with my new employer for a casual interview and coffee, well chocolaty frap for me
It sounded like a good opportunity and I guess I impressed him since he offered me the job on the spot.
The only downside is that it means I have to cut back on my blog work. In fact, after thinking long and hard about it, I’ve decided to give up blogging for now. I just can’t dedicate as much time as I would like to it. So it’s time to call it quits. I kid! Did I have you going there for a minute?
No I fully intend to keep this blog going, but I’m just going to have to limit my routine and take a more long term approach. I apologize in advance to everyone if I’m not able to comment as much as I have been. I still love all your blogs and think you guys and gals are all awesome. So I will try to stop by when I can. Hopefully most of you still keep visiting my little blog.
Ok now that the Jeremy update is out of the way, how about an update on some of the stats that made good headway recently. I guess this is where some of you will skim down to see if you got mentioned and then leave a comment
No worries, I don’t want to make anyone feel bad with my amazing stats lol.
So most importantly my rss subscribers broke the 100 mark the other day. I said I was going to put the subscriber count button in my sidebar when that happened, but I’ll wait in case lots of you ditch me as I get busy with my job. If the subscriber count starts dropping I’d rather keep that to myself haha.
Next up is Twitter. I mentioned I was getting a lot more aggressive with building up my following on there. I even made some goals to try to hit, but yeah I suck at goal setting. I actually doubled my original end of month goal and now have over 1100 twitter followers. I won’t lie and claim that this many people really care what I have to say, but hey the numbers look nice.
My Alexa Ranking continues to drop, but I didn’t quite get to under 50K like I was hoping. I knew that would be a little tough. Still I’m pretty happy with 53K since I was at 22M 4 months ago.
Yep this blog celebrated its 4 month anniversary on Wednesday. Well I had guest writers during the middle of the week, so I guess she celebrated it without me. That cheating @#$^%! Serves me right for neglecting her and not getting her anything special to mark the occasion. Geez, no wonder I’m single.
Everything else is gradually growing. So I won’t bore you with minor improvements. Let’s just stick with the positives. It will be interesting to see what happens to all those stats as I shift gears and start just running this blog on the side. Knowing how nice you all are, I’m sure most of you won’t just up and leave. Do I have to beg? I’ll save that for next week’s update.
Modest Money Around The Web
And now for the part that I doubt anyone reads other than to find their name on the list. It may not be interesting to read a bunch of blog post titles, but at least it’s some kind of acknowledgement for everyone’s kindness. If you’re especially nice you’ll probably get double acknowledgement with a feature in the next section to, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

I do website marketing for a living. I know how it is. So much work to do, but never enough time. Still, you get brownie points if you comment with something more than ‘Thanks for the mention’. Now I know you don’t want to be one of those people now that I brought everyone’s attention to it. Anyways, less rambling and more blogger love…

Here’s where I’ve been sneaking in some random questions to liven up the comments. This week though, screw it. I got a new job and I want my congrats messages lol. They better be sincere and not too generic though

In 4 months you got down to 50K alexa?! That’s AWESOME! I’ve been blogging for… hmmm… 2.5 months and am pretty stoked that I just got under 500k.
That’s great about >100 RSS subscribers. I just learned that mine was broken and fixed it, needless to say, having a broken thing doesn’t make for many subscribers, haha!
Congrats on the job and we’ll forgive you if you’re slighly less social because of it.
TB at BlueCollarWorkman recently posted..What Disney is Hiding From You
Thanks TB. Yup I wasn’t notified of your last 2 posts. I guess it’s easy to get dependent on RSS feeds and forget to manually check in on blogs if you don’t see any updates. I’m pretty happy about all the stats and the job. Things are going well in my world these days.
CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW JOB! That’s fantastic. I know what you mean by dialing it back re: blogging while you work – it’s hard to keep on top of everything and as you’ve seen, I frequently drop the ball.
When do you start your job? Thanks for the mention, BTW!
Daisy @ Add Vodka recently posted..May Recap & June Goals
Technically I already started. They’re still getting an office ready, but he wanted me to work from home to start. I guess that’s a good thing as I can do some of that work in the evenings while I gradually transition to a different schedule.
And no problem about the mention. Your blog is always entertaining…well except when it gets all girly and I get a little lost lol. All of your female followers probably appreciate that stuff though.
Woo hoo!! Congrats on the job!
Budget & the Beach recently posted..June Goals
Thank you. It’s always exciting to land a new job, even more so when the search seems to have been going on for a while.
First commenter! Woot! Congrats again on your new job, you’ll have to update us lots on how it’s going. Your commentary on how everyone just skims posts was hilarious and actually drew me into reading every word. Thanks for the mention!
Jordann recently posted..May Was a Budget Buster
oops…guess I wasn’t fast enough…
lmao at the premature first commenter celebration. Good to hear that my guilt trip worked on someone haha. I was just kidding around though. I know that some posts just aren’t as interesting and are bound to get less people actually reading it all. I don’t hold it against anyone, unless they consistently make that obvious with most of their comments lol.
Congrats on your new job, Jeremy! Glad you’re not giving up blogging…you had me going there for a minute!
haha yeah too bad I’m a couple months late on the whole april fool’s gag. I guess june fool’s day works too. Yep I’m definitely going to keep at blogging. It’s just too enjoyable connecting with all the great bloggers. Plus I admit that I like extra money.
Jeremy,
Thanks for the link love and congrats on the new job. As we discussed I hope you’ll follow through with a “whale post” on what it means to be unemployed, and the job of finding a job.
Cheers.
Eddie
Thanks Eddie. Yup I intend to write something up about it for Monday. I just felt like I should mention it in the update post first since I couldn’t hold it in any longer lol.
Hahah this post was just full of pure awesomeness Jer. CONGRATS ON THE JOB once again! I knew you would get one soon, it was all a matter of time. Look at how hard you work. Your stats and Alexa ranking is amazing… I’m going to miss you on the blogosphere 24/7! Who will I rant to on twitter DM???
Don’t forget about us, and I’ll keep reading your blog…as long as you don’t sell it
Thanks for the mention, and it’s so cool how you keep up with all of your mentions. I’m def too lazy for that..or if there’s a tool for that, I’m clueless. Anyway, congrats again! I will definitely be waiting for your next post which will include the begging. Hahah happy Friday!
From Shopping to Saving recently posted..Are Your Kids Good Investments?
What happens if he sells his blog? Why stop reading (I already know the obvious), but its a question more out of curiosity??
Thanks Erika. You’re pretty awesome too. Keeping in touch with people like you is obviously great motivation to keep this all going. You are definitely welcome to rant to me on twitter or e-mail anytime.
As for mentions, there is paid software to do that, but I’m too cheap to spend money on that. For these I notice the ones from the blogs I read, but some others I get a trackback or they mention it on twitter. I just wish I knew why I didn’t get trackbacks for more of them.
Uh-oh, you’re gonna hold me to the promise of some begging. Lol well I’ll try not to come off as too desperate, but begging isn’t beyond me.
Congrats on the new job. And you scared me there for a second, I thought you were actually going to stop blogging!
Michelle recently posted..What is your money worth to you?
haha…I should’ve kept the trick going through the whole post. I’m sure it’s pretty believable since some bloggers do pretty much give up on their blogs when they start a full time job again.
Congrats on the new job, and keep up the great work on the blog!
Peter recently posted..10 Tips For New Bloggers. What Are Some Things I Should Consider When Starting A Blog?
Thanks Peter. I hope I can keep everyone happy once I get more involved with the new job.
Congrats on the job, Jeremy! That must feel good. Also, 53k in just 4 months?! Are you bribing the Alexa folks or something? That is some seriously awesome progress. Nice work! I appreciate the mention. Also, thanks for the good discussion this week on the cars post. It’s great to get different perspectives every now and then instead of having everyone around me always agree . Have a great weekend!
Jacob @ iHeartBudgets recently posted..Budget Fridays
Yep me and those alexa folks are tight lol. I just tell them to make sure the progress is fairly consistent so as to not raise any eyebrows. I guess I should’ve got them to slow things down a bit haha.
And it was good talking to you on the car post too. I’m a little biased with limited mechanical knowledge and some bad experiences with used cars. I wish I could confidently buy a used car in that price range. It would make things so much simpler.
Woooooo hoooooo! Congrats on the job, it took them long enough to realize you’re awesome…silly employers.
You actually did get me, I really thought you were going to quit blogging. I’m glad you’re not going to.
By the way, I do actually read your entire updates and don’t just skim to see if I was mentioned.
Jen @ Master the Art of Saving recently posted..Spending Money: iWant vs. iNeed
No I know most of you guys are good people and take the time to read stuff. I was just teasing 2 or 3 people with that.
And yeah it took those employers long enough to figure out what I can bring to the table. Mostly it took a different mindset on my end though. I’ll go into that in my Monday post.
Jeremy, that’s great! Congrats on the new job. If it goes anything like your blog, I’m sure you’ll have great success with it. You had me going as well with the whole quitting your blog thing, lol.
Justin @ The Family Finances recently posted..Lessons Learned: “I Can’t” Never Did Anything
I think the job will go well, but without the support of all you awesome bloggers, it will definitely be tougher. Marketing a blog is so much more enjoyable than marketing a commercial website. The significantly higher income is some good motivation though.
Congrats on the new job, Jeremy. Nice! and you had me going there too (for a second) on the quit blogging thing. Lol.
Are you going to share more on the job you got and what you will be spending your days doing now? Do share.
Cheers!

Only a second? I definitely should have dragged it out more. I just didn’t want to risk disappointing people too much
Yes I am planning to go into more detail in my Monday post, at least to sneak in a link to my new employer’s website to help my marketing efforts.
Glad to hear you have a new job man! Don’t worry, I’ll still be following your blog. I feel your pain on commenting, I try to do my best, once my designing is done, I should be back at it hard core. Thanks for the mention!
Jeremiah Brown recently posted..CHEAP MOVING – PART 6 – How Using The Professional Movers Can Save You Time and Money
Yeah I’m sure potential bloggers never realize how time consuming blog commenting becomes once you get running a blog. It’s very easy to get obsessed with commenting on every post from your favorite blogs and trying to find more and more blogs to comment on. Then once it all gets rolling you feel obligated to maintain it. I truly feel bad knowing that I will have to cut back on some part of my blog commenting routine.
Congrats on the new job! And, thanks for the mention.
So now you are making the big bucks?
I wouldn’t say big bucks since I tend to get drawn to working for small companies still in their early growth stages. Between this job, a part time contract I’m working on, my older websites and this blog, I’m doing alright now. In 3-6 months I should be doing much better if I can maintain all of that.
Congrats on getting the new job! I will still be visiting your blog just as much. Commenting takes a lot of time and I know how hard it is to juggle work and keep up a blog and comment on everyone’s posts. Take it easy though, don’t work yourself to death. We will all still be around even if you can’t spend as much time with the comments.
Thanks Katie. Good to hear that you’re all being so supportive. I’m still going to do what I can to help all my blogging friends, but it might make more sense to focus on the less time consuming stuff. I can already see that it is going to be tough to not just wear myself out trying to keep it all going as it is now.
Awesome to hear about the new job. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving person!
Well I don’t know about that. I’m sure there are plenty of more deserving people who could use a job. Maybe let’s just narrow is down to the most deserving SEO professional in the Vancouver area
Congrats on the job – aw get up and dance, the cats will get over it

Country Girl recently posted..May meet June.
You don’t know my cats. They can be quite moody. I guess some treats can repair any emotional damage. Trust me, it’s better off if nobody sees me dance with my lack of coordination. Perhaps I’ll save that for in the shower.
Congratulations Jeremy! I think you should dance with your cats, that way no one will feel weird about it!

lol good idea. They kinda like when I do that, as long as I don’t get too into it. Then they get that look of terror in their eyes and I’m suddenly left with claw marks across my chest.
Congrats on new job!! That is awesome! Best of luck and enjoy the job and the money.

Ahhh the money. That part will be pretty nice. After having to watch my money pretty closely for a while, it’s gonna be tough not to splurge. I hear a tablet calling my name soon. Thanks Barbara.
Congratulations!! I am very happy for you. That’s fantastic. It’s awesome you’ve had some time to give your blog a chance to grow, but full time employment is always nice.
Oh, and thanks for the mention.

mycanuckbuck recently posted..Blog round up June 1, 2012
It was definitely nice to spend a bunch of time just concentrating on my blog. I was able to connect with so many great people and really build some early momentum. Now let’s see how much of that momentum I can carry forward.
Four only four months of effort you are doing a fantastic job. I know blogs that have been around for three year and haven’t done as well.
CollegeBoy recently posted..What is a Prepaid College Tuition Savings Plan?
Yeah I think I’ve done a pretty good job so far. I don’t want to take anything away from the bloggers who are growing at a more gradual pace though. My experience and available time were crucial to this pace. I know it would be virtually impossible to do this as a newbie or while working a full time job.
Congratulations on the new job! I hope we still get to read your posts every week or so!
