Well it’s a long weekend for Canadian Thanksgiving. I sure don’t mind having a long weekend again. After working from home for about a year I was missing out on the joys of having that extra day off. When you work from home it’s really just another day of work. Well there are work at home jobs where you still get long weekends, but not when you’re not quite working full time and you’re going all out on your blog.
This weekend I’ll be sure to take some time to relax and not worry about fitting in work. In fact I’m writing this post on Thursday night to ensure that happens. Once I’m done this post I hope to hammer out my Monday post. Or maybe I’ll get lazy and schedule one of the guest posts in the queue.
I’ve actually got a bunch of plans lined up for the weekend. I’m trying to con my friend and his girlfriend into baking a turkey. There’s a good chance the turkey won’t happen, but my girlfriend and I will still honor them with our presence
I’ll hold up my end of the bargain and bring the pumpkin pie. I’m just not sure if that goes with sushi if that’s what we resort to. In all honesty sushi actually sounds better than turkey. I do love eating a big turkey drumstick caveman style though.
We’re also planning on making a day-trip up to Whistler to visit my sister and do the tourist thing. It’s been a while since I’ve gone up there, but it always makes for a good weekend getaway. We would stay longer than a day but arranging for a cat sitter is a bit of a hassle. I realize people would rather enjoy their long weekend rather than committing to feed someone’s spoiled cats.

What’s your thoughts on doing blog work on the weekend? I know some of you prefer to take a complete break from work during the weekend, while some of you seem to keep working hard. Is a long weekend any different?

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m going to have to look up the origins of the Canadian version. Looks like Turkey and Pumpkin pie are international favorites though. Thanks for the mention.
I’m sure the origins are based around the same history as US Thanksgiving. There wasn’t a separate Canada and US back then after all. As to why it’s a different day, I don’t really know. It’s probably because we have Remembrance Day in November instead.
Thanks for the mention Jeremy, and happy Thanksgiving!

No problem Pauline. Enjoy your weekend.
I actually took a break during the week this week so I’ll have to play catchup this weekend
I don’t mind though, I seem to get more done on the weekend anyway.

What?! You took a break Lance?? You always seem to keep so busy with commenting on a ton of blogs and doing plenty of networking. The occasional break can help a lot though.
Thanks a lot for the mention. Have a good Thanksgiving (that is weird to say when it’s not the end of November)
Anytime Sean. Well we feel the same way when the US tv shows and US commercials start mentioning Thanksgiving in November.
Mmm sushi, one (if not the one) of my favorite foods on this planet. Now, other planets… hehehe jk. Weekend road trips are awesome, I’m taking one today to Dana Point, CA. Glad to see you like the post about unemployment depression btw.

I ended up having sushi last night and it was damn good. I even went to my old neighborhood to hit up my favorite sushi restaurant in town. It’s got to be my favorite food too.
And I can totally relate to your unemployment depression post since I went through some of that earlier this year. It happened to be magnified by some other issues in my life, but it was pretty rough.
Thanks for the mention Jeremy. I’m a big fan of sushi (Japanese food in general). But I’m definitely excited for Thanksgiving dinner! Enjoy Whistler & sushi!

Did someone say Vancouver blogger sushi meetup sometime?! It turns out I won’t be having turkey at my friend’s place tonight, but somehow I’ll find some turkey on Sunday or Monday.
Thanks for the mention Jeremy. I try to avoid working on the blog as much as I as I can on the weekends as well as other business work. It’s just important to us to have time where we don’t have to be on call as we run our own business. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Running your own business must make it especially tough to take a proper break during the weekends. It would be too tempting to want to put in some hours to keep everything running smoothly and help out the marketing.
Happy Thanksgiving Jeremy. Blogging happens for me when I can fit in the time whether it be during the week or the weekend. I don’t really set aside specific time. I unlike most work irregular hours so I have the luxury to come and go with the computer. For the most part I like to stay ahead and like you have guest posts ready to rock and roll which also helps out other bloggers. Enjoy the Sushi…don’t think we’ll be having a dinner here as well… I’l be working. Thanks for shaing my post. I hope you fans find it educational. Cheers Mr.CBB

I’m the same way in that I fit in my blog work whenever I can. I might make a bit more effort to take a break during the weekends lately, but it’s pretty tough to not do at least some blogging work every day. I agree that the guest posts do help to free up some time while also helping other bloggers.
Thanks for including my post and happy Thanksgiving.

No problem Roger. I definitely don’t mind helping out someone who has been promoting my posts too.
Happy Thanksgiving. Sushi is certainly an non-traditional way of celebrating.
I actually do most of my blog work on the weekend. I try to get stuff done during three week, but mostly when I get off work I just want to relax.
That is totally understandable. With some jobs it is just hard to want to do any work after you get home. And yeah sushi is pretty non-traditional, but I’m not big on tradition.
Jeremy, thanks for the mention! Let us know what happens with the turkey eating cave man style (my fav) or sushi. Both good! I’m not a fan of pumpkin pie but I seem to run into it no matter the main meal.
John recently posted..Spear Fishing | An Apocalyptic Man Skill
Well I got to hit up both sushi and turkey this weekend. I gotta say the sushi was the better meal though. I ended up going to a diner for a big turkey meal with all the fixings.
The secret of a good con is that you go big. Why ask for turkey when you can go all out and demand turducken? It is one of the great creations of man and deserves a place of respect on any Canadian Thanksgiving table.
Then if you have to settle for a measly turkey as a compromise it’s at least somewhat acceptable. Starting at turkey is the wrong spot – ALWAYS aim high!

lol…if I thought I could con them into that I would’ve tried. Those friends cook for me enough though. Plus they were going to turkey dinners at relative’s houses later in the weekend. So we settled for chicken. Turducken is pretty tasty though.

I do my best to avoid working on the weekends as I want to give that time to my wife and hang out with friends/family. However, every 3rd weekend she works and therefore, I commit myself to working for the weekend. This past weekend I had some financial plans to write up, but after that I busted out a few blog posts (and a guest post…
)
Thanks for the mention and hope you had a fun weekend!

That sounds like a good system to just work every 3rd weekend. Taking that break to spend time with friends and family makes it a lot easier to remain productive during the week. Plus it just keeps you sane.
Thanks a lot for including SS! Did you manage to get the Turkey going in the end?
Savvy Scot recently posted..12 Crazy Disney Facts You Never Knew
No problem SS. We didn’t end up making our own turkey but we did go out to a restaurant to have some lol.
Thanks for the mention Jeremy! Hope your Thanksgiving included turkey – ours included two of them
We also made some pie, but we used spelt flour instead of wheat because we had some wheat-allergic friends come over.

2 turkeys??? I’m jealous. Since we didn’t make our own I was missing the leftover sandwiches and soup. Perhaps we’ll cook one up for 2013 though.
