Well it’s been a very busy week around here. So much for scaling back
Unfortunately I can’t say I got a job yet, but I did manage to get this blog’s Alexa ranking under 100k. So when does this Alexa company start mailing me the checks? If only it were that easy.
Last week I created a poll of the top Canadian personal finance blogs. If you haven’t already, please head on over and place your votes. Early on one specific blog was running away with the lead, but a late edition just recently passed him. So it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. And no, neither blog is Modest Money. No love for the host?
If anyone wants an additional vote, subscribe to my rss feed, follow me on twitter or like my blog on facebook and then send me an e-mail. Hey, nobody said this poll was going to be super accurate. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t fight tooth and nail to get the glory of being one of the top vote getters.
Feature Blog Posts
Normally I like to feature more posts from other blogs, but since the list in the next section is quite long, I’m going to try to limit this to 5 featured posts.

And just so everyone is not leaving generic comments, how about a totally off topic question or two. My beloved Canucks lost their opening playoff game. So I’m hoping for a big bounce back game tonight. Any hockey fans out there? If so, who’s your team? If you’re not a sports fan, maybe just tell me about your Easter weekend. We’ll make the comments nice and random like this post. Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Great job on getting under 100k Jeremy! I know you work really hard so that’s an awesome accomplishment!
Nice job on getting linked up as well, that must be a sweet feeling!
I’m not into sports soooo my Easter weekend was okay, just had a family party and ate some delicious food. The best part was getting easter candy at 50% after the weekend

Thanks Erika. Yeah it did take a lot of hardwork to get this far. In fact I may need to slow down for a week or two to catch up on my other websites now.
Ahh, gotta love that discounted post-holiday candy. I seem to always miss out on it though. By the time I get there it’s all the crap that nobody wants.
I grew up in St. Louis so if I had to root for anybody it would be them!
Have a good weekend.
WorkSaveLive recently posted..Should I Sell My Wife’s Wedding Ring?
St. Louis has a pretty good chance if they can turn things around a bit. They had a awesome regular season, but look to be in a tough series against San Jose.
We are a hockey family here. My oldest is on a school trip in europe and they were dying with no updates. His BFF is Canucks all the way. DS divides between Ottawa for his Canadian allegiance and Chicago for his US allegiance. One of my high school buddies played NHL so I would cheer for the team he was playing on. Since he is retired now I cheer against my son to create a bit of chemistry in the house

Jolie recently posted..Income Tax here (and a bit of this and that)
That’s awesome that you root for opposing teams within your family. That must make the games a bit more intense. Most families generally cheer for the same team. Well so far in the comments everybody’s team lost game #1. Since you cheer against your son though, I guess you’re up in both series Jolie
Nice work on Alexa. Tell them I’m still waiting for my check too.
I’m not a sports guy, so Easter it is! We had a great time! We brought in the “extra” candy from kids’ baskets to my work – a heaping serving bowl of goodies! None of my colleagues can believe how much candy they got!
MyMoneyDesign recently posted..Why Is It So Hard To Buy Something?
Well I hope your kids weren’t too upset about losing their extra candy. I know I wouldn’t be too impressed. I think I’ve seen youtube videos of kids throwing a tantrum over that exact same thing.
Nice work getting your rating under 100,000! That’s impressive and you should be proud. My Easter weekend was great! For the first time ever there wasn’t a single Easter dinner scheduled (mostly because my sister was leaving the province for 8 months). So I got to have a traditional Easter meal at my fiancée’s father’s house: Wings, beer and deep fried French fries.
Haha nice, that’s a pretty sweet Easter dinner. It may not be traditional, but it sounds damn tasty. Sometimes a chance in tradition is a good thing. It was probably a really good visit with your future father in law. Nothing like some beers to get know a person even better.
Easter was good. Between running to my families and my wifes we were really busy. My lil girl got the barbie jeep. I wish I wasn’t 6’4″ cuz it looks pretty fun and I would like to take it for a spin.
What is the weather up there like this time of the year? Random like this post!

Trying to balance holidays between two families can be a challenge. I know I had some problems with that with my ex. On the plus side, big awesome meals with each family makes it well worth it.
Haha yeah it might be a tight squeeze into the barbie jeep. I can relate since I’m the same height. I’m sure you could manage some kind feet on the hood position to make it work though. Getting out of it might be another question though.
Normally this time of year is rain, rain and more rain. Instead this year we’re off to an early start to the summer. Had some nice sunny days recently. I think everyone’s gonna see a lot of that with the mild winter. How’s the weather down your way?
Those big awesome meals leave me needing to hit the treadmill.
Yea we had a very mild winter too. In fact barely any snow, I got new tires on my Grand Cherokee hoping for tons of snow and none! It has been really nice, I have gotten out to golf 2 times so far which is quite a bit for this time of year. It is in the low 60′s to high 50′s.

My Easter weekend was great, thanks for asking!
It was my younger son’s birthday too, so that was neat. We all dressed as if I’d coordinated our outfits….but I hadn’t. I must say…we looked like a pretty cute family! I was so upset that I forgot to bring my camera to our family’s Easter party, but thankfully pops loves to take pictures of cute kids (and their parents.) Now, if only pops knew how to upload images in less than 5 months time. :/
As for hockey….bleh. My husband is a huge fan! I think that makes me hate it, so it’s all his fault. He can’t do anything but watch the game. Even during dinner last night, the game was on…so he was just staring at the muted tv. Annoying. I do occasionally get a foot rub out of his madness, though, when he wants to watch the game and doesn’t want to hear me whine the whole time. He’s so smart! Congrats on that low Alexa rating and all the mentions! You’re so popular!
Michelle recently posted..A New Bike
Sure, you didn’t coordinate the outfits Michelle
You don’t need to stretch the truth with us lol. You’re lucky pops can upload images at all. Some older people would struggle with just turning a computer on.
Jefferson must be really into the hockey now that you have a good team and are in the playoffs again. I think me being a big hockey fan made my ex like it less too. She was a big fan too, but eventually just started going on the computer while I watch games. I guess I should’ve been giving more foot rubs lol.
The foot rubs work! She won’t complain as long as you’re *pretending* to be paying attention to her..hah
Michelle recently posted..A New Bike
I’ll keep that in mind for the next girlfriend. I do recall plenty of back rubs to convince the ex to watch games with me. It would only work for hockey though. If it was football, soccer, basketball, etc, even that wouldn’t work.
Thanks buddy for counting me
And Congrats for going under 100k…
Thanks Jonny. And thanks again for the guest post last week.
Great job w/ Alexa, Jeremy! And thanks for the shout out

Nick recently posted..Five ways to encourage kids to save
Thanks Nick. You should be below 100k before long too. Enjoy your Greaster weekend!
Wow. That’s a huge list. how do you manage it?
I don’t really do anything special to manage it. I just keep a text document on my desktop to keep a running tally of who to give thanks to. Or do you mean how did I manage so many mentions? If that’s what you meant, it was largely due to the list of the top Canadian personal finance blogs. Lots of people were sharing the list on their blog to get their readers to vote.
That makes sense. I was thinking of taking a page out of your playbook and doing a list of Colorado based PF blogs, but I only know of two others beside mine!
I think you’ll find there’s more than you expect. There’s 3 listed here: http://ptmoney.com/personal-finance-bloggers-map/
Also ericjrosenberg.com is from Denver I think. I bet if you contacted those 4 bloggers, they’d know of a few more too.
Thanks for the mention, Jeremy.
No problem Echo. It was good chatting last week about your other project. We’ll have to keep in touch more.
Obviously from Vancouver (YVR). Not a good hockey night for us! I was at Game 1 on Wednesday and again disappointed tonight about our lack of scoring. Well, we’re gonna have to win 4 out of 5 games now!
sleepydad recently posted..Sleepydad’s Dividend Paying Stocks
Yes the Canucks definitely have their backs against the wall now. There’s still plenty of hockey left in the series, but it will be tough to come back. That Duncan Keith hit on Daniel Sedin is looking a lot more crucial now.
You totally deserve the ranking! Kudos to you
I know things seem a little bleak on the job hunt front, but it just takes time. I am confident you will find something absolutely brilliant and wonderful!
Thanks for the encouragement Tess. At this point I’d settle for something that was brilliant or wonderful
Lets GO HAWKS!!!!
Now there’s one team I definitely can’t support. I’d be happy to see Phoenix take them out in the first round.
Not such a good game 2!! Maybe they can bounce back on the road… Looks like it might be a rough year though for Canadian hockey fans. Thanks for the mention, and congratulations on the Alexa ranking! For just a few months, that’s really impressive.
Earth and Money recently posted..Book Review – Refuse to Choose!
Thanks E&M. I hope the Canucks play better on the road. I’d hate to have to shave the beginnings of my playoff beard already. We’ll see if Schneider has any better luck in game #3.
Congrats on getting below 100K on Alexa. I got below 130K and started going in reverse. Sigh
Astro Gremlin recently posted..Why You Need an Expensive Swiss Watch
Thanks Astro. It does get difficult to keep improving as you get close to 100k. I fully expect to start slipping back once some better posts start losing popularity. It is good motivation to work harder though. Dropping your alexa ranking does usually just come down to how hard you work.
I spent most of Easter playing pool at my parent’s house. Yeah, I suck, but I’m getting a little better each time.

Jen @ Master the Art of Saving recently posted..Tell Me How To Spend My Money #5
I’m the same way with pool. I love playing it, but I’m not particularly good. It all comes down to practice.
