Mid July 2012 Favorite Blog Posts Comments31 Comments

As promised I’m trying posting my weekly favorite posts on Saturday instead of Friday. This should give a lot more attention to all of the feature posts.

Just don’t get mad if I get busy and have to cram it all into one post again soon. I’m not big on posting on the weekend and had been enjoying having the extra free time those days.

I’m hoping that it won’t be much more work than just doing this all in one post. The part where it might add more work is responding to comments.

So don’t keep me too busy with long comments :)

Later today I’m going to be meeting up with Brian and CF from Outlier Model. I met up with them last week, along with Jessica from Mo’ Money Mo’ Houses and Daisy from When Life Gives You Lemons. It’s pretty cool to meet fellow bloggers in person to chat RSS feeds, Alexa Rankings and all that fun stuff.

Anyways, enough rambling and onto my favorite posts from this past week:

5 Things That Can Be Outsourced On Your Blog on When Life Gives You Lemons – although I’m a big advocate of outsourcing, I just haven’t managed to outsource much for my blog so far. The initial design is really the only thing, unless you count guest posts. I should go over Daisy’s list some more for ideas though.

July garden update on The Outlier Model – I love how Brian and CF manage to grow some of their own food despite living in a city apartment. A while back they started their own balcony garden and now they’ve got involved in a community garden. Very cool!

I kept sliding… on Bog OF Debt – Read about how a series of financial mistakes can push someone into debt during her college years. It isn’t always just one bid mistake. Sometimes one thing can lead to another and before you know it, your debt is getting out of control.

Celebrate the Slow Thinkers on The Canadian Personal Finance Blog – Big Cajun Man comes to terms with how he is a ‘quick wrong thinker’. I think this can be a lesson to most of us. We may think we are making great decisions quickly, but sometimes more time is really needed.

Taking A Test to Get A Job on Money Smart Guides – Don discusses how some employers are forcing job applicants to take critical thinking tests to judge candidates. I know I’ve personally had to take tests during some interviews and I think it makes a lot of sense.

Your Guide to Cheap Summer Vacations on One Smart Dollar – For all of you looking for an inexpensive summer vacation this year, check out some of the ideas Scott has written about. You don’t have to jump on a plane and fly somewhere exotic to have a fun time.

Restaurant staff reports only 5-10 per cent of tips as income on Canadian Personal Finance – Steve recently uncovered a story about how the Canadian Revenue Agency decided to target some restaurant workers to see if they were claiming their tips at tax time. Of course the resounding answer was no.

The Top Ten Personal Finance Bloggers And Money Experts To Follow On Google Plus on Money Q&A – I admit that I don’t really do anything on Google+ yet, but here’s a good list of some of the top finance bloggers who have embraced this social network.

My Worst Financial Decision on The Family Finances – Most of us have made some financial mistakes in the past. Read about how Justin worst financial decision revolved around buying a house in the wrong city.

What I Would Tell Myself Going Back In Time on Poor To Rich A Day At A Time – Carrie and her husband have gone through some rough times, but despite their struggles learn why she wouldn’t change a thing.

LF on being cheap on Cents & Nonsense – Let’s face it, there are some pretty cheap people out. Recently some particularly cheap people have been getting on LF’s nerves. I hope I’m not considered cheap!

How to Save Money: By Budgeting in Spending Cash on iHeart Budgets – Jacob is a big advocate for budgeting, but he still hasn’t quite convinced me. Learn how he and his wife use cash to limit spending.

Dividend Growth Index 2012 Q2 Update on My Own Advisor – I’m trying to get more involved in investing. Here is a great analysis of how some dividend paying stocks have done this past quarter. Very informative!

Monetize More Than Your Traffic: Part -2 on The Web Ninja – Recently my friend Avrom started a new project and he’s off to a great start. Learn more about ways to monetize your blog.

Savvy Car Shopping on Thirty-Two Dollars – Kaylan is a new blogger that I’ve been enjoying reading posts from lately. Read about how she used what she learned from pf bloggers to negotiate her car purchase.

Now you all have something to read during the rest of your weekend :)

If you want to be included in a future edition of my favorite blog posts let me know. I do give preference to generous blogger. So don’t take it personal if you didn’t make it on this list. You just need to do more to get on my good side lol.

What was one of your favorite posts from other blogs this past week?

I’m sure your other pet will enjoy the company. At first there is usually some territorial tension but then they learn to accept each other and become good friends. I’m not completely decided on weekend posting. So I will have to think about it some more.

No problem Lauren. Good luck figuring out how to balance your busy life these days. I do think you should look into meditation instead of the naps. If I ever find some free time I’m going to learn it myself.

Thanks for the mention. Like Avrom, I hope I stay in your good books!?

If you were in Ottawa, I’d offer you a cold beer right now. It’s the only reasonable water-source we have. Damn it’s hot!

    Take care,

Now that I’m getting into investing, it’s more the other way around. I hope I stay in your guys’ good books lol. I’ll be needing all kinds of help soon, but I’d be glad to help out with any SEO questions or anything along those lines. You can paypal me money to buy a beer lol. Just when I was planning to hit up the beach it looks like cooler weather this weekend.

Might be time to organize your rss reader into categories ;)
I know my rss reader has a ton of feeds in there, but there’s only so much time to read them. So I try to sort them by priority level, mainly by the level of my relationship with that blogger.

Thanks TB. I have to say that your link round ups are much more creative though. I loved the 80s movie one. I just need to find a way to include more posts without cluttering things up.

Yeah it’s cool having a bunch of local bloggers to meet up with. It’s interesting talking to them about blogging and everything else. Plus I’m sure we will be able to help each other a lot going forward.

No he isn’t being too nice in the photo. You can see that Trip is looking up at Timmy ready to start batting his paw sticking over the edge. Timmy is just too distracted by the camera or he’d be hitting him in the face.

It can be quite tough to keep up with your favorite blogs, especially if you start to follow a lot of them. I’m sure it’s been even tougher with Molly around.
