Well I’m gonna keep the update brief this week. I’m super busy trying to catch up on work with my job and honestly I’m just not in a writing mood.
I’m pretty happy with the response to the most active commenters widget so far. I’m getting way more comments these days and brand new commenters have been showing up. The conversations are just a lot more fluid now that people have a reason to come back to reply. My favorite part though is how people are commenting on older posts. It’s nice to have someone still read that content and those comments make those pages look fresh to the search engines.
It’s just a shame that someone had to be a douche on the yakezie forums and delete my thread about that plugin. I guess a certain someone is bitter that I was promoting my stuff on there without being a challenge member. Oh well. I’ve lost a lot of interest in that forum lately and I’ve never liked their challenge setup.
One thing that I should’ve anticipated is that this plugin is now keeping me a lot busier responding to comments. So much for it reining in my blogging time. If only I was more of an ass and willing to skip commenting on everyone’s blogs. I’d miss it too much though. I might try to only comment on posts on days that I publish a post. If you don’t see me around other days, that’s why.
The only other thing I feel like reporting is that my alexa ranking is inching closer to 50K which was my ultimate goal. I think I might have to pull some tricks out of my sleeve to make it over that hump. Thanks everyone for helping me get so low so quickly.
Modest Money Around The Web
Again I got spoiled by a lot of mentions on other blogs. I did have some major distractions this past week though. So I was expecting more of a decline here. I’m just lucky enough to have some pretty generous bloggers within my network. And if you’re not linking you’re a mean, mean person
I kid, but all links are much appreciated.

And now for the most enjoyable part of these weekly blog updates. Here’s some weekend reading from some bloggers who are better writers and know more about finances than me. Ok maybe I beat one or two of them, but they’re all pretty awesome.

Does anyone mind if I share photos of my cats in these update posts? Yes? Too bad! I figured they could use some livening up, but really I just want an excuse to put all these cat photos to use and they’re pretty awesome cats. Any other cat people out there? I love all animals, but cats are just easier to have when renting an apartment in the city.
Has anyone else been watching the Euro Cup Soccer? Who are you cheering for? There have been some really good games so far which sure doesn’t help the productivity.

Go Italy! Just discovered your blog, some interesting reading and a pretty detailied post for not feeling in the mood to write
.
Andy recently posted..The Profile of a Well-to-do or Rich American
Yeah I kinda realized I wrote more than I was really intending. Maybe I really meant to say I wasn’t in a mood to write anything entertaining. Italy has always been pretty good, but just not the same since that infamous shootout loss to Brazil.
Hey thanks for the mention! That’s a pretty cute kitty! I have a hypo-allergenic Siberian cat and she is the most amazing cat ever (yes even more amazing than yours cats), I got her when living in the city where dogs weren’t really an option. We’re getting a dog soon but she’ll always be the #1 pet in the household.
Jordann recently posted..Guest Posting and E-fund vs. Wedding fund Update
Oh really?? More amazing than my cats?? That’s pretty tough to believe. We’ll have to have a cat-off to see who’s is better. I’d love to get a dog someday too, but not until I own my own place and have the time to commit to one.
I don’t mind the cat photos, but maybe include some dog photos as well?!
You don’t want to alienate those dog lovers.
Plus, dogs are great at helping you with maintaining good financial habits. Dogs will go running with you, and thus, no need for a gym membership. Cats wont.

Kaylan recently posted..Making Up for Your Mess Ups
Yeah cats are pretty useless for getting exercise. One of mine has a bad habit of getting in my way or jumping up on me when I’m doing a workout at home.
Maybe I’ll include some dog photos if anyone wants to send in a photo of their dog.
Thanks for the mention! I appreciate it as always.

No problem Hank. Thank you for all of your support too.
Go Italia! (My wife is Portuguese so it is fun at our house)
Congrats on the mentions – I am not sure why the latest builds of WordPress do not have trackbacks.
It is good to see where the traffic is coming from.
Steve @ Grocery Alerts recently posted..Giveaway of Smith Farms Products
I grew up in a town with a lot of Portugese people. So I’m seeing a lot of support for them on Facebook these days. Get her to look up the LMFAO parody ‘Portugese and I Know It’.
Yeah the trackback issue is lame. The thing is that it might not just be wordpress itself. I did hear something about web hosts possibly starting to block trackbacks as they are often spam. Maybe WP even had some kind of arrangement with web hosts to make trackbacks easier for web hosts to detect in WP 2.0.
Very cool about the active commenters widget. I’ll have to check it out. Good to hear you’re busy with work, too!
Nick recently posted..Blog swap! What’s your worst money mistake ever?
Yeah it’s a useful plugin, but be aware that it can attract lots of spam. I know it might just be a matter of time until I get added to some spammers list.
Thanks for linking me! I really appreciate it. For some reason I can’t see the most active commenters widget on my macbook but at work on my PC, I can see it. Wonder why? Or maybe my internet is just really slow right now since I’m at a hotel using the 3g from my phone.
You’re doing great since a lot of people link to your posts! What breed is this cat? He looks kind of like a siamese cat. I was kitten sitting a few weeks ago and there were 2 siamese cats. They are so graceful it’s crazy. Really fun to play with.
I’m still a dog person though!
From Shopping to Saving recently posted..Blog Swap! My Biggest Money Mistake
I think your problem is that apple products are just overpriced devices that are made by people too stubborn to worry about compatibility with existing technology. I would be surprised if such a popular plugin didn’t work on macbooks though. Maybe your browser just has javascript disabled?
That cat is just an american short hair or the breed that ‘looks like Sylvester’ if people don’t know cats. My other cat is a Maine coon.
I think if you owned a cat to really connect to you wouldn’t classify yourself as just a dog person. I’m an animal person.
Hey!
Lets not pick on apple products, k?

Marissa @ Thirtysixmonths recently posted..2 $50 Old Navy Gift Card Giveaway!
Oh don’t even get me started. Now that you mention it, I’m tempted to write a post about the matter. Then again I don’t want to upset any members of the Apple cult.
I do love the active comment widget and I may consider installing it on my blog eventually.
I think you’ll see a further decrease in your Alexa rank now that you have it installed so I’m not sure you’re going to have to pull any rabbits out of a hat to drop below 50k. We’ll see I guess.
Thanks for the mention by the way!
I haven’t been watching the Eurocup as my wife and I currently don’t have a TV. I did pull up the NBA finals game last night and will probably watch the rest of the series. Kevin Durant is a beast but I really want Lebron to win his first title. He has a bunch of haters but I like him.
Jason @ WorkSaveLive recently posted..Yakezie Blog Swap: What’s Your Worst Money Mistake?
Yep I’m getting damn close to 50K now. Without changing tactics I’ll probably be under 50K by the middle of next week. I think I’ll need to do something extra to keep it under 50K long term though.
As for Lebron, he’s got a hater right here lol. I just don’t tend to like people who are that cocky, which I guess isn’t surprising with a blog named Modest Money. It’s just annoying for him to proclaim himself the king before he’s even won anything. So I’d be quite satisfied if he gets shut out yet again. I do admit that he’s had some pretty dominant games in this year’s playoff run.
“The King” isn’t that bad of a nickname. I mean, come on, he gave it to himself when he was in high school. Aren’t all high school kids that DOMINATE cocky?
You can’t blame him for being an immature kid 10+ years ago.
I hope my Alexa Rank will get below 70k but I’m not sure I’m going to make it. I’ve been hovering around 71k for 1-2 weeks now. I’m content with that I guess as long as I don’t creep back up near 100.
Jason @ WorkSaveLive recently posted..Yakezie Blog Swap: What’s Your Worst Money Mistake?
I can’t blame him 10+ years ago, but I can blame him now for keeping the nickname. Screwing over his hometown team was pretty lame too.
71K is pretty good. No need to worry about that too much. In my opinion anything below 100k is great for a blog less than a year old.
I like the widget, keep it rockin’! You cutting back on your blogging time look like me when I’m being more active! Hah! Maybe someday you’ll publish less than 3 posts a week, but I doubt it. You love us too much!
Cool cat, btw.
Jacob @ iHeartBudgets recently posted..How I Blew Through $100,000 Before I Turned 21
Well I can’t say I’ve cut back too much yet. I just keep telling myself I need to. Plus I have a lot less commitments compared to other bloggers. I don’t intend to drop below at least 3 posts per week anytime soon, but I do use guest posts to keep that up.
And yeah that cat is pretty cool. He’s the spoiled one who often has to be carried to his meals.
I love how you ask your readers if posting pics of your cats is okay. No, I don’t like pictures of cats. They upset me greatly. Please stop. Thanks. :p
Thank you for linking Jeff’s post! I like Jeff, too!
Oh and soccer? What’s that? Is it like football…but not as badass? I think I’ve heard of it…:)))
I’m off to spread more joy. Have a great weekend, Jeremy!!!
Michelle recently posted..What Would You Pay For A Good Night’s Sleep?
lol, in that case, I’ll have to e-mail you the whole collection
No soccer is that #1 sport across the world that was referred to as football everywhere until some confused american named his sport football even though it’s primarily played with hands and not feet. I guess he knew that stealing handball’s name wouldn’t attract as much attention.
Have a great weekend too Michelle.
Thanks for mentioning me Jeremy.
No problem Sean. You don’t seem to like answering my questions lol. After my last post I think people know what that means
I’ve been watching as much of the Euro 2012 as I can (tough at work during most days)… but I am rooting for Poland (family heritage)… big game tomorrow against Czech Republic! Hopefully they can pull out a win.
As expected from everyone, Spain and Germany looking good so far…
Jon recently posted..Lyndon Johnson’s 10 Rules For Success
Germany is my team since I’ve got some German background. I would root for the Irish from my mom’s side, but they’re getting beat down. A Germany/Spain final would be pretty sweet and it would be a shame if they met up before the finals. As for Poland, they came up pretty huge in their earlier game. That penalty kick save was intense.
Well the Pols couldn’t do it against the Czech… almost got the equalizer to elimited CR, but it didn’t happen. That group wound up pretty crazy… still shaking my head that Greece somehow snuck in to the next round!

No problem John. I really like the format of your blog so far. So I’m happy to share it with everyone here.
I’m not a huge soccer fan so I didn’t even know the euro cup was going on. I think it is great that you’re getting more comments. I’ll have to investigate a similar feature on my blog and see if it works for me.
Lance@MoneyLife&More recently posted..Net Worth: What Is It and How To Calculate It
In all honesty, it is the PR4 in combination with the plugin that makes it appealing to new commenters. I know I personally don’t bother with one of the PR0 blogs that I know has this plugin. Early on you really have to put in the work with commenting on other blogs to get them to visit. By the way, your url currently loads your feed instead of your actual blog.
The kitty pic made me smile. A LOT. I am a deep down pure bred cat lover. Mine had major surgery last week and today he got his stitches out and his cone off. The licking of his cone as he simulated cleaning his fur almost drove me batshit crazy.
jolie recently posted..My last ‘at home’ day
Glad to hear. My cats makes me smile pretty much every day. I’m not picky about cat breeds. This one just happened to be what the local kitten rescue organization chose for us. My girlfriend at the time wanted to see which other ones were available but once I was holding this guy I couldn’t be swayed. lol about the cone driving you crazy. I’m sure it’s driving him even crazier. Animals are so funny when they have to wear a cone, but you can just tell it’s super frustrating.
Jeremy, thanks for mentioning my post! It’s always appreciated. Personally, I’m more of a dog person, but I totally don’t mind you sharing pictures of your cats, lol. To each his own. And I don’t really follow soccer at all. Here in the US, our basketball leage is having it’s championship series and I’m watching that.
Justin @ The Family Finances recently posted..Things I Hope My Son Will Say About His Father
Yeah I’ve been watching some of the basketball playoffs, but that happens every year. Euro Cup is only once ever 4 years and it’s some of the best soccer out there. Plus it’s a little tough being a basketball fan in Vancouver after they shipped off our Grizzlies to Memphis…damn you Bryant Big Country Reeves! Well him and all the players who refused to come play here.
Thanks for the mention. I’m rooting for Croatia, my homeland, but a little embarrassed by the behavior of Croatia fans. Wish I had an excuse for ‘em but I don’t. Have a great weekend!
John | Married (with Debt) recently posted..Best Personal Finance Writing – Week 24
Yeah it is too bad that some sports fans have to embarrass other fans like that. Fueled by alcohol it just takes a few bad apples (or bananas in this case) to set off the rest of the crowd into doing something they wouldn’t normally. I know all about that after the Stanley Cup riots here in Vancouver. With that riot it was also pushed by Black Bloc influence. Anyways, Croatia has had a good soccer team for a while now. So hopefully they do well in their games to overshadow the other stuff.
Thanks for the mention!

No problem Jessica. Happy to support another Vancouver blogger. If you move to Toronto though, all bets are off lol.
Was cheering for the Netherlands… but yeah they haven’t been doing too good. And more cat pics please! Hehe
Yup quite the disappointing tournament for the Netherlands. It was pretty obvious it was going to be tough for them to get out of that group though.
And if you insist, more cat pics will be on the way haha
Thanks for the mention – and I love the cat pic! I have my own “fuzzybutt” as I call her. Adorable, if unpredictable.

mycancukbuck recently posted..Blog round up for June 15, 2012
Sweet, another cat lover. Finally…a use for all these cat photos. Everyone will just have to put up with seeing more of my ‘fuzzybutt’ lol.
So trackbacks stopped with WordPress 2.0, huh? Well that explains it. And sucks. I guess the best way now is to just tell people and hope they tell you. WordPress shoudl fix that! Thanks for the info on that one.
TB at BlueCollarWorkman recently posted..Father’s Day the Blue Collar Way
No problem. Normally WP would be all over fixing something like that, but since it’s mostly helping spammers, I don’t think they’re in any rush. By not fixing it they are actually improving the experience for the average blogger. Just sucks for anyone who wants to acknowledge people who link to them.
The Germans! Thanks, as always, for mentioning Funancials!
funancials recently posted..Are You A Consumer Or Producer?
Nice, another Germany fan. Hopefully that was a happily enthusiastic German cheer and not one of anger that I’m cheering for them.
