Mid March 2012 Blog Update

First off, thanks for everyone who has supported me with my decision to step back a bit from blogging. I’ve been getting a lot of great advice, both through the comments here and via e-mail.

This was not announced as a long term decision though. I have every intention of keeping this blog going and one day increasing the frequency of posting again. I just don’t know when that time will be. The positive feedback sure is doing its part in drawing me back to blogging.

One of the exciting things happening with my blog this month is the iPad2 Giveaway that I am co-hosting with a group of other bloggers. This has produced some awesome exposure. Apparently Modest Money is one of the front runners for referring the most CheckPoints app downloads. I was a bit surprised by that, but it’s good to know that my readers have been helping support the contest sponsor. That helps ensure that we can do future contests like this.

Employment Update

I haven’t made much headway on the job front, but I am still optimistic. Earlier this month I visited one of my previous employers for a little chat. I was quite impressed with their massive new warehouse and office. It’s a big upgrade from their old office on top of one of their retail stores. I’m just not sure if they are ready to hire full time marketing help. If things don’t look promising with the other opportunity, I may need to press them on this a bit and more aggressively convince them of my worth.

The other opportunity is also a previous employer, but his company is growing tremendously lately. So it probably is the better position if I accept his job offer. He’s more likely to pay a better starting salary and there is potential for generous commission. I just need to get a feel for what kind of plans he has for his business and where he sees me contributing.

Wish me luck.

    • Yes I’m pretty great lol. It is nice to feel wanted, but I’ll know for sure just how much they want me when I hear the details of the job offer.

    • That or they just feel sorry for me enough to offer me a job haha. No I did do good work for them in the past. So I’m sure they realize that I can make a positive impact on their business again.

    • No I don’t think I would ever take on a full time content writing job. I’ve tried writing about various topics in the past and if it doesn’t interest me enough, I end up just outsourcing the work. Community management would be a decent gig, but with limited experience in that area I’d have to start from the bottom rung of the ladder. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    • Yay indeed….if I end up getting the job anyway. If not I’ll have to see if anyone up shit creek has a paddle to spare. The time stepping back a bit from blogging was a good use of time. I may have missed out on a bit of promotion work, but it helped me figure out what direction I want to take things.

    • Thank you Tess! You’re a kind woman, one with some awesome artistic skill. No finding a job never is fun, but at least it’s a lot less pressure when approaching previous employers where you know what to expect. I won’t have to dig out my tie anyway.

    • I don’t know if that really is the case in my field. When I do take the time to check around I’m lucky to see 1 or 2 jobs and none of them have been appealing enough to apply for. IT jobs are just too specialized with skills becoming obsolete each year, being replaced by new skills to learn.

    • I’d like to think I have some options to choose from, but I realize that at this point I probably need to accept what I get offered. Even if it’s not an ideal situation, the extra income will relieve some pressure and really help with the big tax bill that I have been avoiding dealing with.
