Guess what time it is?
Time for your weekly Wednesday blogging tips post!
In this series I pass on things I’ve learned during my blogging journey or in my previous website marketing experience.
When you’re all so generous, it’s the least I can do. Besides it’s a nice break from finance writing as I let loose my inner nerd.
If by some chance you’re new to this blog, here are some popular topics covered in some of the previous blogging tips posts:
This week, one of the top affiliate marketers Zac Johnson will be discussing the costs that go into running a blog business.
The following is a guest post. If interested in submitting a guest post, please read my
guest posting policy and then contact me.
Real Costs of Running A Blog Business
When it comes time for you to start thinking about creating a blog of your own, you will also want to start thinking about the many costs involved. Not many people think of blogging as a business, but if it’s done correctly it can be one of the most rewarding businesses of all. There’s plenty of software available to take care of financial management for businesses.
Finding a Quality Web Host
The first thing you are going to need to do is find a quality web host. There are hundreds of web hosting services out there and many of them are the same, so finding one that is right for you might be a challenge. Take the time to find quality reviews from multiple sites and also look at their blogging and hosting options. In the end, your hosting costs will probably be less than $10 a month for a basic blog site.
Creating Real Content for Your Site
The only way to find success in the world of blogging is to have content that provides value and gets people coming back to your site. Content can be created in many different ways. You can write all of the content yourself, or you can have it outsourced. There are plenty of sites out there that allow you to post writing jobs for a few dollars each, such as blogging.org, textbroker.com and many others.
Custom WordPress Themes and Logo
There are millions of blogs on the internet and the last thing you are going to want is to blend in with the crowd. Creating your own logo design will run around $35 to $75 if you look around for the best sites. Logonerds.com and DesignCrowd.com are two design services you should look into. For a wordpress theme, sites like Elegantthemes.com allow you to access their whole directory of themes for under $100. There are also plenty of free themes out there that you can choose from.
Getting Links Back to Your Site
The search engines don’t want sites “buying” links back to their sites, so you have to create killer content that people will share and link back to, or you will need to hire a link building service. Depending on the services you are looking for, link building can costs anywhere from $50 to a few thousand dollars. I recommend you take the time to look into guest blogging, as this process is free and builds quality links back to your site.
Tutorials and Training Guides
When you start looking at the online business world, affiliate marketing and blogging you will surely come across numerous guides and programs that will promise you the dreams of making millions of dollars online. The truth is these are all crap. Save your money and stay away from them. Most of the information is already out there and free.
Get Started with Your Blog Now
This might seem like a lot of information and cost, but it actually isn’t. To actually get started with your blog, all you will need is around $20 to cover the cost of a domain name and hosting. Everything else is an upgrade.
Be sure to check out my new book on Amazon.com titled “Blogging Tips: Confessions of a Six Figure Blogger!” which covers all of the basics and advanced stages of creating a blog of your own and turning it into a six figure business.
