Beginning of May 2013 Blog Update

Like my office view?

In the past I got a little carried away with these blog updates. I was posting them every week just rambling about how my blog and life outside of blogging was going. Ok so maybe it was really just a way to fit in a link round up each week. I have since decided to move on from link round ups as I found I was almost always just linking to the same sites over again. Ultimately it wasn’t helping people much anymore.

Since it’s my blog, I still want to occasionally treat this as my personal diary or just vent about things that don’t deserve a post on their own. So if you’re looking for financial advice in this post, sorry to disappoint you.

On the home buying front, our condo buying process is going smoothly. I think the only thing left to take care of is getting some homeowner’s insurance and actually signing the mortgage. Well the only thing major anyway…there’s always countless things that need to be done when you move. I’m pretty happy with how it’s all gone and now we’re counting down the days before we finally become homeowners. Continue reading

Beginning of March 2013 Blog Update

Cat Lying Down

Well I didn’t get a chance to do a blog update last week due to the Canon Rebel T4i camera giveaway starting last Friday. Beyond that excuse I am thinking of how to restructure my posting schedule.

While a blog is bound to evolve over time, I admit I’ve let the vision of Modest Money slide over the past few months. As I got busy with my job and other priorities, I’ve been writing less and less. Lately it’s been all guest posts other than my blog updates. I even had a blogger tease me about how I don’t really write these days when I attended a local blogger meetup. Go ahead, call me a sellout. I deserve it.

So going forward I am going to make more of an effort to write more of my own content. I do have a ton of guest posts in the queue though. So I will continue to publish those and I will keep accepting new guest posts from other bloggers. I really should write at least one of my own posts each week…and no not just these rambling blog update posts. Continue reading

End of February 2013 Blog Update

Well this has been an eventful week, not all of it good. Despite that I’m rolling with the punches and staying positive.

I debated with myself about whether I should publicly talk about one of the bad things that happened. I’ll just be a bit vague about the details. You can e-mail me if you want to know more. Basically I had a bit of a problem with a certain search engine. Some of you may know what that problem is. I’ve kept the search engine traffic and rankings, but the problem still affects business.

Since I’ve experienced this kind of thing with a couple of my other websites before it wasn’t a total shock, but still quite frustrating. Due to some very supportive bloggers I may have learned how to address the problem too. Doing so long term is another story though. So I’ll need to think about things more and decide what direction I really want to go in. As a result you may see some changes with my blog in the coming weeks. Some of it will be long term changes and some may be temporary fixes to appease the search engine. If concerned about any of it, do get in touch with me. Continue reading

I hope everyone had a good Valentine’s Day. I’m writing this post a little early. So I hope mine went well, but with what I’ve got planned, I’m pretty sure it will. I won’t get into details though. I don’t want to make the other women out there jealous :)

Does anyone else care to share what you got up to for Valentine’s Day? I know there were some people out there that choose to have a quiet night and not celebrate or do something special on a different date.

Earlier this week, I had another session with my personal trainer. I have to say I paid the price for taking too long a break in between sessions. The first time I went I must’ve worked my legs a lot harder than normal or just didn’t stretch enough, because my legs were sore for days. On top of that I developed a sore throat. So not only did I put off booking another appointment, but I also didn’t get much exercise in between.

As a result the last workout was still pretty tough. I’m progressing, but still getting pretty winded. By the way, when I say personal trainer, this is more about just getting in shape rather than one who specializes in weight training. Continue reading

February 9th 2013 Blog Update

It’s been exciting past week or so. Last week my blog celebrated its 1 year anniversary…ok the celebrations were pretty tame, but I did put up a post recapping some of the stats so far.

Then earlier this week I was involved in 2 separate giveaways, one for $100 with a Valentine’s Day theme and a $999.99 cash giveaway put on by my employer StructuredSettlement-Quotes.com. If you haven’t entered yet, what are you waiting for?? Free cash money!

Then towards the end of the week Sean from OneSmartDollar.com hosted a poll to determine the top personal finance blogs of 2012. I was lucky enough to be nominated. So I’d appreciate if you could head on over there and vote for me. Considering who’s nominated I know I have zero chance of winning, but I’d like to finish in the top half, especially since he might’ve copied the poll idea from me ;) Continue reading
