Happy Birthday Modest Money!!

Ok the actual 1 year blogging anniversary was January 30th, but since it’s my blog I’m going to celebrate on the weekend instead. Besides, by celebrating on Wednesday I’d have to write a midweek post myself which is a rarity lately. With so many great guest posts sent my way, I’d feel bad for taking their spot in the schedule.

I originally planned on doing some big giveaway to celebrate the occasion, but shouldn’t it be me getting the presents?? E-mail me for my address :) I figure I’ve been involved in more than my share of giveaways lately anyway.

The first year anniversary of your blog is one of those major milestones. Sticking with it this long shows some major dedication. Here’s a recap of the stats I’ve managed to build up in the first year:

End of January 2013 Blog Update

Mexican Pelicans

This week was supposed to be my first week back to work after my vacation to Mexico. As luck would have it, it wasn’t a full week.

I didn’t get extra days off for being such a good employee. Nope, I got hit by the flu on Tuesday. So on Wednesday and Thursday I stayed home to rest up and do a bit of work from home. Well I didn’t get as much work done as I had hoped since I was pretty drained and had a constant headache. So it was mostly just resting up.

Provided I’m feeling better today I’ll be back in the office again. At least I was able to do plenty of good work on Monday and Tuesday which got the ball rolling on a few projects. If it wasn’t for that I’d be more concerned about their marketing momentum sliding, especially since I was just away from the office for a week.

Unfortunately this prevented me from getting all caught up on my blog work too. So as I was laying on the couch, my inbox was filling up and comments were going unanswered. Guess who has some more work to catch up on this weekend? Continue reading

Mid January 2013 Blog Update

Mexico Beach

I hope you all didn’t miss me too much. I’m back from my vacation in Mexico. I think my blog was left in good hands with some awesome guest writers. Thanks everyone.

I’ve gotta say that Mexico wasn’t really what I was expecting. We were staying in a small resort town that was really dominated by American and Canadian influence. So it wasn’t the big party scene, nor was it an authentic Mexican experience. Instead it was a town that seemed to be primarily relying on tourist money. Being a tourist or beach bum is still a good time though.

Somehow we managed to be there for the coldest weather they had received in years, but that wasn’t so bad. Since it snowed in Vancouver while we were gone, I’ll gladly take some partial cloudy days and wind. Apparently the day we left it cleared up and the wind died down. At least it wasn’t too hot to enjoy things. Continue reading

So while most of you are reading this post, I’ll be in a plane flying to Mexico. If you’re somewhere cold, I hope I’m not making you too envious.

We’ll be spending a week down there relaxing in the sun and exploring the area. I’ve never been to Mexico, but I’ve always wanted to go there. The flights are often cheaper than flying within BC and I hear their beer is cheaper than water. Plus I’m sure there is plenty to see and do. I’m really looking forward to it anyway.

It might seem like weird timing for a vacation since I just recently took time off for Christmas. We happened to score free accommodation though since my mom and step-dad will be renting a condo. Who can say no to free accommodation in Mexico without any kind of time share presentation? Count me in! It worked out that this coming week was the only week that worked for both me and my girlfriend. Continue reading

End of 2012 Blog Update Part 2

End of 2012

So the Christmas break is going very well so far. The trip to spend the holiday with family was a bit of a mess, but I’ll write more about that soon. Overall I was very spoiled and I’m very thankful for everything.

Now I’m back in the Vancouver area catching up on things. As much as I’d like to just kick back, there is just too much to take care of. I’ll have time for relaxing in a couple weeks when I go on a real vacation to Mexico.

Earlier in the month I helped organize a group giveaway contest for an Apple iPad3. The contest ended up being a tremendous success and will likely be the first of many group giveways I help plan.

I’d like to congratulate Waldemar Mopera III from the Philippines. He was the lucky winner and we’re working on getting an iPad in his hands soon. Continue reading
