Early this year the 2013 edition of Modest Money’s Top Canadian Finance Blogs poll began. The poll started with over 80 blogs covering everything from general personal finance to debt to investing.

After about 3 months of voting, the first round of voting ended with a total of 4,793 votes from 3,829 voters. Amazingly one blog had 84% of the voters selecting them as one of their 5 favourite Canadian finance blogs. And no it wasn’t the blogger who dominated the 2012 poll.

For this poll the 1st round of voting does not carry over though. That way everyone can vote among the most popular blogs instead of just voting for their closest blogging friends. With this format the top 3 blogs should be much more accurate. Continue reading

Early in my blogging journey I decided to pay homage to my fellow Canadian finance bloggers. It’s not that I focus specifically on Canadian finance topics, but it just didn’t seem like there were any good lists of Canadian finance blogs out there.

Now that my blog is more established I’m hosting these polls again and I’m quite interested to see how similar the results are. This time around there are some changes to the poll format. First of all, the poll for the top Canadian personal finance blogs also includes blogs dedicated to investing. Later there were also be a separate poll for the investing blogs. Continue reading

You don’t miss something until it’s gone, it’s true. When you take things for granted, it’s easy to get comfortable with the fact that nothing will ever change. In this instance I’m talking about things I miss since leaving the UK and moving to Canada.

Fish and Chips….proper fish ‘n’ chips

I went to Detroit one day and on the journey home stopped at an Applebee’s for something to eat. Looking through the menu i saw what they said was “Fish and Chips” and instantly had a hankerin’ for it, though obviously not in the newspaper wrapping (dam you health and safety!). Continue reading
