Sharesight Overview | Is Sharesight Right for Me?
Sharesight offers powerful portfolio tracking, which is a great way to better understand your investment performance across multiple accounts, brokers, and assets. It also has convenient tools such as dividend tracking and tax reporting.
Whether Sharesight is the right portfolio tracking software for you will depend on a few factors, including your budget and what you’re looking for in a portfolio tracker tool. Since it has a free plan, there isn’t much to lose. Investors can see how they like the platform first before paying anything.
That said, I don’t find the free plan particularly robust. To unlock everything Sharesight is capable of, you’ll need to subscribe to one of the paid premium plans. Keep reading, as I explain more about Sharesight, including how it works and its top features.

After reading every review out there, here are some of the most informative reviews I found, from traders who have experienced the platform firsthand:
Good job guys. Just one request, can you increase the limit of number of Custom Groups and number of portfolios for the lower subscription level – just by a couple of more allowed.”
There are a couple of general themes I found in the positive Sharesight reviews. Users seem to be very pleased with how the service analyzes their portfolio and delivers easy-to-understand insights. They also routinely mentioned how Sharesight was a huge asset in helping them prepare their taxes.
Like online reviews for all companies, Sharesight does have some negative reviews. Many negative Sharesight reviewers mention very slow customer service response times. Sharesight does respond to one of the replies saying they made changes in how they prioritize customer support tickets, which should reduce wait times.
If you would like to dive deeper into what customers are saying, you could check out the Sharesight Reddit reviews, although I must note that these reviews aren’t from verified users, so they shouldn’t be given too much emphasis in your final judgment.
How Does Sharesight Work?
Sharesight was developed in order to give investors a better understanding of their investment performance. In this way, it was created to help fill in the gap left by brokers, which often don’t offer robust data and portfolio performance analysis.
Fortunately, Sharesight is intuitive and works in a pretty straightforward manner. Users simply sign up for an account, whether a free plan or one of the three paid options, and then start integrating their brokers.
This allows for automatic tracking of price, performance, and dividends from over 240,000 global stocks, cryptocurrencies, and funds (including ETFs). You can also add assets such as cash and property to see the full value of your portfolio all in one convenient place.
To get a better idea of how Sharesight works, let’s take a look at some of its top features.
Sharesight Features
Here are a handful of Sharesight’s many useful features, that I found most beneficial:
- Tons of integrations – Sharesight not only allows you to connect to 200+ global brokers, it also enables integrations with 40+ markets as well as software partners. This includes big names such as Charles Schwab, Robinhood, and Interactive Brokers, as well as newer players such as cryptocurrency exchanges.
- Deep portfolio analysis – Sharesight makes it easy to track your portfolio and its performance all in one place. You can calculate returns with customizable options, including dividend-inclusive performance (for “total returns”), currency fluctuations, and more. You can also easily benchmark your portfolio against any given stock, ETF, or fund in the Sharesight database.
- Tax reporting – Thanks to its dividend tracking (see below) and the ability to easily generate and share tax reports, Sharesight can greatly simplify tax season and help you better understand the tax implications of your investments.
- Simplified dividend tracking – Dividends are a key component of many portfolios as they can provide compounding returns over time. With Sharesight, it’s easy to track dividends and distributions from the 240,000+ global stocks and funds in Sharesight’s database, going back up to twenty years.
- Diversity Report – Sharesight’s proprietary Diversity Report gives you deeper insights into your portfolio’s diversification, a key attribute of a portfolio set up for stable long-term returns. The Diversity Report shows a pie chart for fast and easy-to-grasp visualization of your diversification. I believe this tool is a great value for any long-term investor who wants to make the most informed decisions possible.

Assets Tracked with Sharesight
Sharesight boasts a comprehensive tracking system that covers an extensive array of investment vehicles. The platform’s automated features encompass equities and exchange-traded funds from upwards of 40 international exchanges, a suite of mutual and managed funds from countries including Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., and forex holdings across a spectrum of over 100 currencies. Bonds traded on the ASX and NZX are also integrated into the tracking mechanism.
The platform offers limited cryptocurrency tracking, providing automatic, frequent updates for a select group of eight cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, Stellar, Dash, Monero, and Bitshare. For additional cryptocurrencies and certain fixed-income securities, manual entry is available, allowing investors to tailor the platform to their unique portfolios.
Beyond its automated tracking, Sharesight allows for the addition of various custom investments. These include not only cryptocurrencies and bonds outside its automated scope but also other assets such as precious metals, real estate, and private loans.
This flexibility ensures that, while some manual input may be required, Sharesight remains a versatile and user-friendly tool for investors managing a broad and diverse investment portfolio.
Sharesight Security
Sharesight commits to robust security measures for safeguarding personal and financial information. Personal data remains confidential, with two-factor authentication enhancing account safety. All data is transmitted securely, encrypted with TLS standards, the kind I consider essential for online safety.
Their servers are encrypted, benefit from round-the-clock surveillance, and are housed within high-security data centers, which is reassuring. The regular independent security checks and ASIC registration reinforce the platform’s dedication to security. Plus, integrating your account with Google’s identity service for two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security.
Sharesight Alternatives
If you have read this far in my Sharesight review and aren’t sold on its benefits, don’t worry, there are other quality options out there. One portfolio-tracking app that has gained popularity is TradeStation.
TradeStation has been around since 1982, so you know they aren’t some fly-by-night company trying to steal your money. TradeStation offers more than just portfolio tracking, it is a robust tool for traders of all experience levels. If you want to learn more, start with my TradeStation review.
Another company I want to mention is Seeking Alpha. Although better known for publishing over 20,000 crowdsourced articles every month, they also offer powerful portfolio tracking features. To learn more about Seeking Alpha’s portfolio tracking features, click the link.
Is Sharesight Worth It?
Is Sharesight worth it? Ultimately, it depends on your budget and your investment needs.
If you only have one account with one broker and a couple hundred dollars invested, then you likely don’t need one of Sharesight’s paid plans. If you are a more seasoned investor with multiple accounts and assets, however, Sharesight can greatly simplify your portfolio and dividend tracking.
